Marcus Wong is a senior executive, governance leader, and public affairs strategist with more than two decades of cross-sector experience in institutional leadership, stakeholder diplomacy, and strategic communications. He has held leadership roles across government, energy/utilities, agriculture, higher education, and international sport.
Prior to serving in public office, Marcus led media and public relations for FortisBC as the company’s corporate spokesperson, managed government relations and federal/provincial advocacy for the BC Dairy Association, and served as a communications advisor to multiple provincial cabinet ministers.
As
an experienced leader, Marcus is widely recognized for his ability to align diverse groups around shared goals in politically sensitive and high-stakes environments. He gained valuable experience in
diplomacy and relationship-building while working for the Canadian
Olympic Committee and the Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C., helping
to strengthen relationships with members of the International Olympic
Committee, the World Olympians Association, Olympians Canada, and both
houses of the United States Congress
PUBLIC AFFAIRS & GOVERNANCE EXPERTISE
Marcus served as an elected member of West Vancouver City Council from 2018 to 2022, where he chaired both the Finance & Audit and Community Engagement Committees. He oversaw a $124 million municipal operating budget and $736 million in capital assets, championed land-use reform, and led initiatives to modernize policy-making through greater transparency and public engagement.
Prior to Council, Marcus was appointed by the Attorney General of British Columbia to the West Vancouver Police Board, where he chaired both the Governance/Policy and Finance Committees. There, he helped lead executive transition and reform efforts while overseeing a $14 million police budget and ensuring public trust through civilian oversight. During his tenure, West Vancouver recorded some of its lowest crime levels in over two decades.
He has also served as a tribunal adjudicator on the Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal, appointed by the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. In this quasi-judicial role, Marcus presided over appeals under social assistance legislation, applying legal reasoning, assessing complex evidence, and issuing written rulings with procedural fairness and statutory precision.
Marcus also served on the Board of Trustees at Queen’s University, sitting on the Capital Assets & Finance and External Relations & Development Committees. There, he helped oversee a $700 million operating budget and $2.2 billion in capital assets, contributed to long-term financial planning, and supported institutional advancement and risk mitigation strategies.

Marcus has been recognized with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, and the West Vancouver Police Centennial Medal for his public service.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen’s University, a Master of Science from the University of Birmingham (UK), and a Master of Liberal Arts from Harvard University. His academic research focuses on Canadian Arctic sovereignty and national security, with an emphasis on territorial integrity, maritime governance, and Canada’s evolving strategic relationship with NATO, the United States, and other Arctic stakeholders especially vis-à-vis geopolitical rivals.
